certifications

Do you guys have any experience with web development certifications?

I’ve always thought a portfolio is way more valuable than certifications/degrees for the type of stuff we do. Are any of these worthwhile or just a scam?

I think in general certifications are a joke, no matter what they are for

and that first website I would not trust looking like that lol

Exactly

I’ve never provided a portfolio or code examples to get a web development gig.

However, I have gotten several web development jobs by solving whatever problems they assign me on a white board during the interview process.

do coders do a portfolio? I thought it was more for designers

it is more for designers, but I don’t think it would hurt to have one. Since it’s not common, it might make you stand out from other candidates during an interview.

Your github account.

when i meant portfolio, I meant something physical they look through

A website portfolio is just as digital as code

I’ve never seen a web designer literally have a physical portfolio, that’s just weird.

and that is why I asked, I am so used to hearing the term portfolio used for something physical, and I do have a portfolio page on my website, I just never heard a coder call their code online a portfolio, i have heard them use the term examples and a few others over portfolio
