Ok retarded question. I am looking to split a server with a friend of mine. He is starting an IT business and wants to host his website. I am looking to run a few websites on this server as well. Also I would like to make this server a bit of a hobby box as well. I would like install the server version of a VoIP application on the server (Ventrilo). Also I would like to be able to maybe host a private game server for me and my buddies as well.

I will also need the server to come with WAMP/LAMP (I would prefer Windows Server 08 though).

I don’t mind answering questions from people who are interested in becoming clients, and 90% of the time they either don’t ask questions or they ask a few and then hire me, which is fine. I understand. I ask a ton of questions before I hire anyone for anything. But you know there are people who just want to "pick your brain" and it takes a lot of time to answer their questions, and your time (and expertise) is worth money…

Hey all,

I’m looking to migrate a friend over to local colocation company from his dedicated server he leased for a few years (he’s been having some problems with them recently). He hosts a single forum that has roughly 30,000 users and 4M+ threads. The current host has him on a single server (without RAID… I didn’t even know people were stupid enough to do this these days.. but that’s besides the point).

I’ve selected the hardware he is going to need for colo- I just have a few questions in terms of how we are going to set it all up for redundency .

I have a client who basically wants a copy of this other website built. It may require modifying some WP plugins and stuff that is beyond what I have time for at the moment. It’s an affiliate sales site.

edit – Correction:

He just needs someone to configure some WP plugins to work like the site he’s trying to copy AND customize the theme’s template files (main page template, page template, post template, etc).

So I’ve noticed that youtube throttles the speed at which you stream video as soon as enough of the video loads for the user to play the video seamlessly… I’d like to do the same for my site, but i dont even know where to start.. has anyone dabbled in something like this?

My company is looking to get an iphone app that can scan our products and load some info from a database and output it in the app. Any idea how much this would be?
Too little information to give an accurate price, but the barcode scanning stuff would be quite a bit to develop from scratch. There is a reason these guys charge an arm and a leg for their SDK:
