i need a hosted cms i can skin with whatever, would wordpress be the best?
any recommendations for hosts?
Wordpress would be the way to go hostgator/bounceweb/dreamhost all are ok.
stay away from dreamhost, they fucking suck
best bet is hostgator, used them for 3 years and not a problem with them
hostgator + joomla seems to be decent
thanks
ask questions, disregard responses and choose the shittiest CMS out there

is it? wordpress is just a blog though isn’t it?
excuse my ignorance about CMS, shit just isn’t in my domain
Its grown into a very good CMS yes it can be used as a blog but its alot more then that now.
it started as that, now it is a great cms to build sites on
yep.. i use wp for everything
I don’t understand why WP gets so much love. Has great UI. That’s really about it.
I think it’s because it’s so easy to use and there are a ton of people out there making shit for it
Have you done much with it lately? Drupal has some advantages still but there is very little you couldn’t do in WP thesedays.
you just a hater
but for a basic site it is one of the best options out there if you want a cms
Can any of you actually write PHP? Open up WP source code and tell me what you see.
I wrote PHP web applications(not websites) for a living for 2+ years I opened up the source code and I seen code.
I believe that WordPress as a CMS could be the best content management system for your requirements. It offers thousands of templates and plugins to make your site/blog effective and attractive.
Wordpress has a lot of modules and people around it. So does Drupal. I think harder/weirder stuff is more easily done in Drupal (in terms of how much code to write).
I use both… and I think both are better than Joomla.

Yep Yep HG is a servicer on OT! Support!

If you have any joomla questions. PM.

Drupal can go fuck itself.
WordPress > Joomla > xhtml + css > html 1.0 > drupal.
WordPress isn’t a CMS, it’s a content publishing system.
WordPress started as just a blogging system, but has evolved to be used as full content management system
drupal ftw.
wp is easier to learn though..

fixed.
I’m definitely a person that will most definitely utilize the best tool for a particular job–even if it’s a tool I dislike and don’t want to use. I’ve often paired Drupal + WordPress for certain applications.
I’ve never had to succumb to Joomla because Joomla is never the right tool.
Joomla is pure fucking garbage. I’d say use wordpress, but drupal is probably a good second choice

Just curious, what issues do you have with Dreamhost? I just switched over them and am having some success with some sites and don’t want shit to hit the fan because of my host
Lots of downtime, I am talking days not hours in some cases, horrible customer service, very shitty host, if you have sites that have to do with your business or want to make money with, I would get them off of there
I’ve only used WP. Cliffs on why Joomla and/or Drupal are awesome/suck?
Also, examples of sites that use WP that aren’t "bloggy"?
Most WP themes seem to require a big of modification in order to make them not feel all bloggy. I’d like to see some examples of other sites that do this.

no no no…joomla used to be hot shit until people realized how rigid it is — the structure of content…and about everything else in joomla makes absolutely NO sense.
I’m convinced about 99% of people can get away with wordless and plugins…the rest…there’s drupal.
I haven’t had a problem with them and I’ve been with ’em for 8 years
There was one incident recently, though that left all my sites offline for nearly 2 days
Other than that, I love ’em.
Exactly this. WP is like the iPhone of CMS’s. Easy to use, tons of support/plugins (apps) = winner
In the end all you need is an optomized reliable server side language + sql connection, a backend MCE editor, a simple file structure, good support & complex functions that are available through community support IE Extensions.
your best bet is pretty much wordpress at this point.

Why doesn’t anyone give MoveableType any love?
I love WordPress too, but MoveableType seems just as good.
if you want something for you own code, cushycms is pretty nice.. you can brand it, or use the free shit..
