What I want to do is add a flash countdown in the blank blue space next to the Indiana University Dance Marathon text that is in the header.

The two images in the top right are in div containers in the code, but I can’t figure out where the Indiana University Dance Marathon text at the top of the page comes from. There is a bunch of java at the top of the html file (I know ZERO about java) so I’m not sure if that is what is generating the text, and if it is how I would be able to put the flash in there?

Yes, it’s a div container and the graphic that shows the title is the background image of that div container. If you download the firebug add on for firefox and start right clicking->inspect element on things you’ll get a better sense of what CSS is doing with your markup.

It’s "droid" which he coined from "android." So no, he’s not suing android inc. he also gave permission to motorola/verizon to name their phone the droid (x, incredible, 2, etc.) Addroid is obviously a play on both, but it’s really ad(vertisment) droid, which is where he comes in.

He owns "droid." You can’t own an actual English word, e.g., "android." Moreover, you are required to actively protect your trademarks if you want to maintain ownership. Any time you fail to actively pursue a violator, you risk losing your trademark.

However, Lucas does get money from Motorola for the "Droid" phone series. It could be unrelated to the trademark issue, but in parts of Europe, the "Droid" is marketed as the "Milestone."

Anyway, back to the topic….

as far as the actual question, no, i’m not really into the concept. i’ve read very little on it, but it’s just not my brand of vodka.

Droid’s rather good. I got the first Google G1, which as far as I know is the first phone to have the Android platform, and though it was buggy as hell at first, I think it’s pretty solid right now.

Google could easily go after these people for the similarity in the mark and the confusion of "goods" – Addroid is close enough to Android and Googles primary services to cause them problems.

Common words can’t be protected. Unless another operating system comes with the name "Android" I don’t see Google being able to protect that trademark.

Otherwise an automaker would trademark "car" or Microsoft would trademark "computer."

Boils down to whether or not you’d like to be labeled affiliated with that company. I turn away any and all bullshit just because I don’t like dealing with bullshit. Any hint of drama or trouble forecasted, I decline. You typically just want to ensure you’re protected. As far as the morals part goes, there’s really not any morals in business.

I didn’t mean shady about them maybe not paying you, I just meant by you helping them you’re essentially contributing to other people (their future customers) getting scammed/ripped off.

I think people are drawing the reasonable conclusion that if they have no qualms ripping off their customers, then they probably won’t see anything wrong with ripping you off.

I’m looking for an email service we can send through to ensure users receive their emails and something that has some control on bouncebacks so we can become aware of them and update the users account accordingly.

We had been using Google Apps to send email, but we’ve basically reached the max number of emails we can send per day.

I don’t need a crazy ass user interface or anything… just an SMTP connection I can create one or two accounts for to send mail through.

I don’t mind paying a few bucks a month… just curious to see if anyone has suggestions?

Contact Google and work something out with them. I’d expect that they’d want to accommodate you.

This is of course supposing that you want to stick with them.

We just use Sendgrid as our smtp for site generated emails. Has worked very well for us.

Mailchimp is nice but doesnt sound like what you are looking for.

With how your html tags are parented, the padding is moving everything down

cut this out of the html

and paste this directly below the body tag

I didn’t mess with it so I’m just guessing thats the issue. That’ll probably bring up other issues with padding and what not, but I don’t feel like actually doing it so you can try and figure it out. Hope this helps though.
