What I want to do is add a flash countdown in the blank blue space next to the Indiana University Dance Marathon text that is in the header.

The two images in the top right are in div containers in the code, but I can’t figure out where the Indiana University Dance Marathon text at the top of the page comes from. There is a bunch of java at the top of the html file (I know ZERO about java) so I’m not sure if that is what is generating the text, and if it is how I would be able to put the flash in there?

Thank you kindly

yeah bro, toss some java in there

addroid is an advertising agency that is going to specialize in html5 advertisements, presumably for the purpose of displaying effective advertisements on websites served to mobile devices.

their name is probably going to change before they launch because lucas has already filed a lawsuit against them (lucas owns "droid"). but i’m wondering what you queers think of it. anyone here read anything about it? i’ve only heard a bit about it because of the lawsuit.

Is Lucas suing the "Android" phone thing too?

Does he own "droid" or does he own "-droid"?

Does he own "droid" or does he own "-droid"?

It’s "droid" which he coined from "android." So no, he’s not suing android inc. he also gave permission to motorola/verizon to name their phone the droid (x, incredible, 2, etc.) Addroid is obviously a play on both, but it’s really ad(vertisment) droid, which is where he comes in.

Is Lucas suing the "Android" phone thing too?

Does he own "droid" or does he own "-droid"?

He owns "droid." You can’t own an actual English word, e.g., "android." Moreover, you are required to actively protect your trademarks if you want to maintain ownership. Any time you fail to actively pursue a violator, you risk losing your trademark.

However, Lucas does get money from Motorola for the "Droid" phone series. It could be unrelated to the trademark issue, but in parts of Europe, the "Droid" is marketed as the "Milestone."

Anyway, back to the topic….

I’d see them in more trouble with Google, seeing as Google is an advertising company and "Android" is their OS, easy to confuse the two.

Google cannot trademark the term "android."

			pete repeat.
as far as the actual question, no, i’m not really into the concept. i’ve read very little on it, but it’s just not my brand of vodka.

Droid’s rather good. I got the first Google G1, which as far as I know is the first phone to have the Android platform, and though it was buggy as hell at first, I think it’s pretty solid right now.

i think the point of this thread got lost hah. but i’m a huge android os fan and have a g1 as well, i’ll be getting a g2 here soon.

way to be absolutely incorrect.

“Android is a trademark of Google Inc. Use of this trademark is subject to .”

Google could easily go after these people for the similarity in the mark and the confusion of "goods" – Addroid is close enough to Android and Googles primary services to cause them problems.

I predict a name change.

I predict a name change.

Doesn’t matter.

Common words can’t be protected. Unless another operating system comes with the name "Android" I don’t see Google being able to protect that trademark.

Otherwise an automaker would trademark "car" or Microsoft would trademark "computer."

Google was also denied the "Android" trademark by the USPTO because of possible confusion with a company that trademarked the name "Android Data."

Or, in other words, I’m absolutely correct.

Do you do it anyway and hope that potential customers are smart enough to realize they’re a scam?

Or do you turn them down because you’re morally opposed to helping scam companies?

Discuss.

Boils down to whether or not you’d like to be labeled affiliated with that company. I turn away any and all bullshit just because I don’t like dealing with bullshit. Any hint of drama or trouble forecasted, I decline. You typically just want to ensure you’re protected. As far as the morals part goes, there’s really not any morals in business.

I didn’t mean shady about them maybe not paying you, I just meant by you helping them you’re essentially contributing to other people (their future customers) getting scammed/ripped off.

I think people are drawing the reasonable conclusion that if they have no qualms ripping off their customers, then they probably won’t see anything wrong with ripping you off.

			I understand.

Well I wouldn’t do any work for anyone without getting paid upfront anyway. I was just curious.

My website sends anywhere between 500-1,000 emails per day for things like user registrations, lost passwords, email reminder notifications, etc.

These are all basic necessities of the site… not crap like spam or anything.

I’m looking for an email service we can send through to ensure users receive their emails and something that has some control on bouncebacks so we can become aware of them and update the users account accordingly.

We had been using Google Apps to send email, but we’ve basically reached the max number of emails we can send per day.

I don’t need a crazy ass user interface or anything… just an SMTP connection I can create one or two accounts for to send mail through.

I don’t mind paying a few bucks a month… just curious to see if anyone has suggestions?

Contact Google and work something out with them. I’d expect that they’d want to accommodate you.

This is of course supposing that you want to stick with them.

			host your own SMTP.

look into txt/srv/reverse DNS.. It’s easy once you understand all the steps needed.

i host my own. I now have 3 mail servers for us and all my client’s web sites.

were running close to 9000 emails a day all told

I know the founders.

i believe we are now their biggest client.

			We use Sendgrid and Mailchimp.

We just use Sendgrid as our smtp for site generated emails. Has worked very well for us.

Mailchimp is nice but doesnt sound like what you are looking for.

Hey guys, working on my website redesign….

got a template from elegantthemes.com, it is all based around wordpress.

i am having trouble getting my logo positioned correctly.
I’m sure its an easy fix, but I’m not very good with CSS.
been working on this for like 2 hrs and I figure someone on here can do it in 30 seconds.

website:

on the top center, my logo is behind the menu, you can barely see the top of it

i want to move it up into the empty space on top.

here’s the CSS:

In this section of the css:

				#top { background: #d2d2d2 url(images/top-bg.png) repeat-x; border-bottom: 1px solid #ffffff; padding-top: 70px; }

With how your html tags are parented, the padding is moving everything down

cut this out of the html

							<div id="header"> <a href=""> <img src="" alt="DeepFocus Logo" id="logo"/> </a>

and paste this directly below the body tag

							<div id="header"> <a href=""> <img src="" alt="DeepFocus Logo" id="logo"/> </a>
</div>

I didn’t mess with it so I’m just guessing thats the issue. That’ll probably bring up other issues with padding and what not, but I don’t feel like actually doing it so you can try and figure it out. Hope this helps though.

In this section of the css:

With how your html tags are parented, the padding is moving everything down

cut this out of the html

and paste this directly below the body tag

I didn’t mess with it so I’m just guessing thats the issue. That’ll probably bring up other issues with padding and what not, but I don’t feel like actually doing it so you can try and figure it out. Hope this helps though.

looks like that was a step in the right direction, now i’m getting this:

i’ll keep screwing around. thanks

figured the rest out, its working now.

thanks

glad I could help… now back to lurking.
