Good Host?

I’m sure this has been asked a million times but…

I’m looking to register a domain. I also need basic hosting with MySQL, PHP support, and a few email addresses with the domain, and file (image) uploading. URL rewriting (mod_rewrite) would be nice as well.

I have tried GoDady in the past, I hate their website and management layout but whatever they were ok. I have a site with NetworkSolutions but they’re expensive and I don’t like how they steal domain names when you search for them through them.

Should I try HostGater? Or stick with GoDaddy? Any recommendations?

do not stick with godaddy

I have been using hostgator for the past 3 years and they are good

also I have have hosting with bounceweb and they are great too and can’t beat their pricing, an oter owns them

HostGator appears to be a lot cheaper. ~$66 vs ~$92 for a year.

use the code

I love 1and1 and have NEVER had a problem.

Been with them for 6 years

hostgator is fine, although my site was down for 2 hours today. First problem I’ve ever had, though (Been with with a year).

hostgator is good, I’ve been hearing good things about bounceweb, might try them for the next reseller acct…

no cpanel and shitty customer service in my experience… no thanks

I am not sure why, but there are like 2 or 3 oters who sackride 1 and 1, makes no sense, they are fucking horrible

hostgator is definitely the best cheap shared host. I just moved to A Small Orange and they’ve been great so far.

Haven’t had any issues with BounceWeb and Ive heard its ran by an otter?

Yes it is

swift is his oter name

they’re not bad. I had a few initial issues with them and ended up getting a refund. I picked up a VPS from knownhost.com for 45/month after an OTer recommended them.

every email sent from my bounceweb site got flagged as spam.. even the emails I received from bounceweb support got flagged as spam. it was also far slower than my hostgator account. I ended up canceling without a refund because I didn’t use it and didn’t want to risk them renewing it.

I have had 2 different accounts with them and never had a problem with my emails being marked as spam and I have not noticed it being slower than my hostgator account, now you got me wanting to look at the speed and see if it is slower for me

I have a shared and a dedicated server with them.. neither have problems and my customer support has always had a max turn around of 2 hours.

like I said you must have gotten lucky, because I talk to more people that have had bad luck with them then good luck, poor customer service, outrage times for outages and so on

I went with hostgator as I found a 25% off coupon

Im practically giving away free hosting, check the sticky in the main forum..

I could see myself getting my account removed quickly..

Details on free hosting for someone with no main forum access??

I would stay away from hytekhosting, they used to be awesome now they are a bunch of douches to deal with …

this

I’ve been with A Small Orange for a couple years. I’ve had very few problems, and for those few, they were quickly resolved, their customer service is the best out of all hosts I’ve used so far.

i’ve used surpass before. they were great.

who wants to start a hosting company with me? lulz

they’re located down the street from me, so I decided to support a local business

I use HostGator – been with them for 3 years now, never had a problem *touches wood*

A Small Orange USED to be great, but their server speeds are beyond horrible, and they don’t acknowledge a real solution or fix things. Was with them for two years, and every month I’d watch the server speeds decline little by little. It got so bad, I’d have to wait three min for a basic site to load. I was using a shared hosting account, but that was two years ago.

I have a business account and it’s BLAZING

Hmm, might give them another try.

they’re also 3 miles from me and possibly on the same fiber provider…

but yours is the only negative comment I’ve ever seen about them

A Small Orange was bought by HostGator Brent (the guy that started HostGator) with his own personal money.

First of all, Godaddy is purely in the domain registration business since they were established, so it doesn’t make any sense to go with them for your hosting requirements. There are many factors to consider when choosing a reliable and stable web host for your business. The most two important factors are at least 99.95% network uptime and 24/7 excellent customer support via live chat, phone and email. If a hosting provider is able to offer both these things then its worth to opt for such services.
