how do I know which database goes with which site?

So I’m backing up my WP databases but in phpMyAdmin it’s asking me to choose which one to back up but apparently I never named them based on the website so they have names like this:

username_wrdp1
username_wrdp2
username_wrdp3

etc.

Is there somewhere I can look through a specific domain and find out which domain goes to which site?

Also, can I rename them without breaking the website?

edit – n/m, I looked through the post table and I can identify which database goes with which site that way. So I guess my only question is how do I rename it to like domain_wrdp or whatever without screwing up my website?

open each sites wp-config.php

it’ll tell you

aren’t you only allowed so many characters? Doubt you’d be able to actually do domainname_wrdp

also how come after i backed everything up it said:

Remember – you have NOT backed up the files and folders – such as images – but all your posts and comments are now safe.

I have a lot of images. Do I have to save a copy of the images folder to my hard drive with ftp to back up images?

Well I could use an acronym or something

should be there if you’re doing a complete backup. If not, just copy over uploads folder, plugins and themes folder.

You have to edit the wp-config.php and modify the DB_NAME.

define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘username_wrdp1‘);

This should work, but I’ve never actually tried it; I name all my DBs beforehand. 😛

DB Manager (should handle images as well)

pretty sure he’ll have to change some things inside the database as well. I could be wrong though.

I don’t believe so, but I’m not 100% positive.

The only thing inside the database are your tables, content and metadata that uses a wp_ prefix. This is controlled via the wp-config.php as well and should not affect the actual DB_NAME.

But, just be sure to do a full backup!

I am surprised at how many of you i see have been giving "advice" here for years yet then claim you almost never make money or ask the simplest of questions. This is shit you can easily google if you don’t know.

I googled and got the WP codex page on how to back up a database. Then after I followed the steps it told me it didn’t back up the pics and stuff.

Also, knowing how to back up a database has nothing to do with knowing how to make money

Also, knowing how to back up a database has nothing to do with knowing how to make money

wrong

lose your site, you lose your money maker, so yes you need to know how to back up a database to make money

You’re basically saying a race car driver has to know how to build a car in order to have elite racing skills.

But I get what you’re saying

You’re basically saying a race car driver has to know how to build a car in order to have elite racing skills.

But I get what you’re saying

No, he has a crew for that, I know you don’t though

what I am saying he needs to know how to drive to be able to drive his race car without skill sets like that and when to brake and chose his line and shit like that, he will not make money

so this is along those lines

A crew that is paid to maintain the vehicle during operations.

A developer that is paid to maintain the website during operations.

A good race car driver works directly with the engineers and even designs his own car. (Schumacher)

A good insurance agent works directly with the web designer and even critiques his own website.

Jesus fucking Christ, nothing against you specifically Falconer, but the lack of SQL knowledge/experience/backup/recovery/copying/usage in this subforum is out of fucking control.

A crew that is paid to maintain the vehicle during operations.

A developer that is paid to maintain the website during operations.

he does not have a developer, he does himself, so he should be able to do it himself

Here’s another analogy…
Professional PC Gamers. There are plenty out there who don’t know the first thing about building their own rig and yet do just fine winning tourneys.

I don’t know how the hell we got onto such a stupid debate in the first place.

Either way, we can agree to disagree.

Questions such as "Wordpress Themes – Where to find?" and "How to migrate a WP DB?" can be easily found via a simple Google search.

If you’re curious about deals, common questions, or where to look, I would suggest subscribing to the following three newsletters.

you are the one not getting it

you can use all the analogies you want, but everyone you mentioned has a team or someone backing them up to help them, threadstarter does not, so it is up to him to do it, plain and simple, he wants to make sure his money keeps coming in if his database takes a shit, he does not have a web developer he works with to come in to help him

he has to use a back up he created or he has to start from scratch, I am not sure why you are not getting it

I know how to back up wordpress themes and databases, I googled it and then if I had questions I asked people, i usually don’t use ot to supply all the answers or hold want them to hold my hand

I have to agree with users like lowclass and retorq, this subforum has become a joke

What I don’t get is why we are using team analogies for this then…

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM?!

Just because we’re agreeing here doesn’t mean we’ll be taking warm showers together until the wee hours of the morning.

I was not the first one to use them

I admit I know nothing of that. When would I have learned it?

Apparently the tutorial on WordPress’ site that I used before making this thread didn’t actually back up everything so I assumed someone here would be able to help.

Not read whole thread. Backup your images via FTP download, or run a backup though ~CPanel and DL the archive, it’s the only way to be sure

Database’s usually hold just the URL/path name to the image file, unless the images are to be kept securely, in which case they are stored within the database itself, such as the BLOB data type.

Always make sure when you create multiple databases to name them something similar to the site, so you can remember which ones they are.

I learned it when I setup my first forum …

I had posted one of my actual scripts in that other thread …
