So, according to Google Analytics, I get about 100/day from Google(makes zero sense)… according to Awstats, I get about 900/day on a particular site.
After realizing that I’m ranked #4, #6, and #10 for a pretty popular term on Google Images(#1 on search would send me about 18k/day)….. it’s obvious Google Analytics is way, way off.
I’ve never seen/caught such a huge discrepancy between two analytics programs… anyone else experience this?
Maybe add a third and see which is closer lol.

Doesn’t GA filter some out, like crawlers and stuff?

I don’t want my page load speeds to get any worse.
Yeah..
Some of them in AwStats may be bots that were mistaken for human visitors, but still doesn’t explain the very high ranking for a fairly popular term and hardly any visits tracked by GA.
My whole day yesterday was spent thinking about/worrying about this. OCD ftw
Ive noticed GA number have been way low compared to my AW Stats and a quick script I did which are both pretty close to the same.
You probably already know this but make sure you’re looking at the right stats column. For ‘hits’ in particular I believe that includes ALL http requests, including images, scripts, stylesheets, etc. For ‘hits’ on my sites theyre in the hundreds of thousands, even though on my actual analytics they may only be in the thousands.
My hostgator stats are like 3x what GA says
Yeah, I’ve known the difference between hit and visit for over a decade.
Good info for anyone else who may be reading, though. When I first started out, I thought hits were visits… and thought my site was the most popular site ever.
Same.

Word, I figured you would know the difference, but I had to say it just because
It’s hard to trust GA. Some of their reporting is questionable. Even between adwords data and analytics data, I’ve come across some alarming discrepancies.
