Launched a new site today

You can only join if you’re a student (or have a student email).

Watch the video, let me know what you think.

Yawn.

This is a mobile App, this isn’t a web App.

If people are looking for something to do while dicking around, they want something that uses location based services, on their phone, when they are out and about.

We’re building that too, just later, as you cant launch an app like that with 0 user base.

For now we have a mobile site.

Like your dropdown menus. I’m finishing up a jquery plugin that transforms a <select> menu into styleable list elements.

I like your work, but I don’t like this site. .

Why

Took me 8 months to code it (I didn’t design it thou).

The coding, wahla! It’s running so smoothly, no issues! So great job on that part, but don’t be offended I’m going to explain my reasons behind the site. It’s the design I can’t stand. When I first went to your page, I had no idea what is for or what it is? I feel no need to sign up because simply I don’t even know what I’m signing up for. So I watched the video w/out sound I have no idea what it is. With sound, (bad quailty by the way, also I can’t focus keep changing voices different people.) I can sort of make out the idea, but it still leaves me confused. There’s only a few seconds of the real product being displayed, the rest is of Phil. Ps. to make the video really stand out, do a horizontal glow behind it (greyscale) to make it pop out instead of just floating.

Next is the login, it’s at the bottom of the page, People are accustomed with logging at the top. See facebook, forums, google, etc. Also the WTF is Philtime text should be much bigger. Put in a short description of the site (the about us section), below the WTF is Philetime, and above the video). To give those who don’t want to watch the video a chance to figure out what’s going on. Aside from all of that, the design of the information/contact sections is well done, I love the color scheme and the form design. Great call to action buttons, perfect blue color! Footer is nice too. I don’t like how the contact form is spaced so close to the footer, it runs into.

I get the concept but it’s just not very clear from the start. Hope that helps at all. You do good work, I want to see it be successful. I’m going to send you a mockup of a revised version.

Sorry it’s rough as hell and missing all the text, but you get the idea.

I have to agree. I wouldn’t have watched a 1 minute video explaining what the site is

If you can get the idea across in a tag line, it has failed already. No one will watch a 1min video.

Okay, I see. We wanted to do a quick bullet point summary of that the site does next to the video, just never got around to doing it for the reason that we have teams of people at all the toronto campuses spreading the word about what the site does, and giving out shit to people. So its not something you would just find on google or whatever, but we will need to add something more descriptive for the "uneducated masses".

The video voice sounds like shit because the guy who was in charge of the video did it last minute, because he’s a faggot, so we just put up what we had.

Some other pages:

hey, what port is pma.philtime.com?

i wanna try brute-forcing that shit so i can murder your site.

Internal host, not .com. Good luck

IMO a jquery slide show with good screen shots and good overlays indicating what the feature is would go a lot further

What’s that mean? I want an internal host.

use your hosts file to "create" any domain/subdomain you want. You can amke your admin CP be at admin.domain.lol

that was worth watching for the random as hell (pretty awesome) arnold impression

fyi,

MySpace = IIS

Facebook = Apache

Im sure whatever FB uses, barely resembles Apache.

I’d like to see a single apache box do 15 million page views per day (all php) without getting raped to shit.

Nginx > *

What? Shitty ASP code will run like shit on IIS, Shitty PHP will run like shit on Apache.
