Hey,
So I just started a forum. I don’t know much about them myself other than they are a great way to communicate between a large group of people and build a community. My forum really doesn’t get much activity other than spammers, which isn’t helping. I think the forum itself has a good cause, it’s trying to attract gaming activists and like minded gamers. I just don’t know how to draw in more traffic. Any suggestions?
there was some dude on here with a website like theofftopic or something.
he basically created hundreds of accounts and stole other website’s content… and had convos with himself.
i guess that’s one way
he’s still doing it..
Notice how all the username’s Are In Title Case Like This?
Coincidence?
I think not
I started mine in Feb and is doing OK so far..The biggest help was assistance from the mods on another big forum in plugging the shit out of our site on the other one which is the only reason I think it took off.
Forums really seem to be either hit or miss and can be very tiresome if you are doing most of the work yourself.
I get 1000 posts a lot of days but its a lot of fluff shit like here on OT but people seem to dig it
Here are the stats from Feb till Today
Threads: 3,628, Posts: 173,060, Members: 840
Not great, not bad I would say semi-successful.

Is it in any certain niche? It’s crazy that some people on OT have that many posts
couldn’t imagine having a lot of posts on an internet message board
I think there is a plugin out there that will rip yahoo answers and post the questions as topics and the answers as responses to the thread…
that would be a decent way to get some movement without having to manually do it.

I thought that was for blogs? The answers were comments?
they have it for forums too
Yeah, it’s actually pretty sick:
Nope just another OT forum, the lounge of a forum most of us visited started fucking up and going offline 20+ hours a day so we decided to go do our own shit.
Only forum I have that has even semi-taken off out of the 4 I have done over the years.
A good way too is to have a front page, post things that provide some sort of worth to the user, wether it be entertainment, breaking news, etc., and have the replies be the forum part. vB 4.0, vB Advanced, new iPB 3.0, etc.
And profit, but it has to be good, and the usual suspects, etc.
OR, start a spin off board when another goes down, like the Tuckermax message board this past week. That ship has sailed, however.
I have a new forum I am trying to make more active also. I am trying to partner with other forums for link exchanges at the bottom of the forum. Let me know if you want to exchange links. They help with SEO as backlinks.
