So I’m looking at this page:
And I see this:
Seeing 5 cPanels for a single IP strikes me as odd, so I decided I would use their live help chat and find out why someone might need 5 cPanels to access a shared hosting account on a single IP.
This may be a dumb noob question of mine, but after using Hostgator for years and hosting dozens of sites on the same account/IP, I don’t understand why someone would need 5 cPanels for 1 IP.
I understand multiple IP accounts where each IP gets its own cPanel, but not why 1 IP needs 5 cPanels (or, if you look at their VIP plan, why 5 IPs would need 10 cPanels, etc.).
So like I said, this might be a dumb question, but their customer service was of no help:
(siram is a fake name I typed in)
The dude, who is "technical support," had no idea what I was asking even after I linked him to the webpage I had a question about.
Here’s the rest:
Holy crap.
Does anyone know why you would need multiple cPanels per IP? Even if it was the dumbest question ever, I would still expect an answer that begins with "someone might need multiple cPanels on a shared hosting domain on a single IP because…".
Also, @ this company? I read some decent reviews about them as far as multiple IP hosting goes… but… uh… at least this one tech support guy was useless.
never heard of them and a lot of the reviews for no name hosting are fake and I would never trust them, after trying a shit load of different hosts, why change what works, like staying with hostgator
my best guess…
Allows you to have five different businesses operating under one account. Let’s say you have 5 clients and each client wants at least one site. You can get one shared account and use a separate login for each client. Then on each cpanel, you can have however many sites that client wants. it could also be useful for partitioning purposes. like if you’re a parent company with subsidiaries and you want each subsidiary to have its own cpanel. seems like a bit much for shared hosting, though. i’d be worried about overloading if they’re trying to appeal to clients who want those kind of setups. |
That would make more sense than what they told me.
They caught my attention by offering multiple A-Class IP accounts. That’s not super common.
I am happy with my dedicated ip addy with hostgator, I have no real need for that
I would guess you get a miniature reseller account (WHM access) that lets you have up to 5 sub-cPanel accounts. You have one IP for your 5 accounts.
The benefit to using separate cPanels rather than the default way of using Addon Domains in a single cPanel is that of isolation and security. With Addon Domains, it only takes one of your accounts to be hacked to wreak havoc through your whole webspace. With 5 cpanel accounts, the damage would be limited to the one that got hacked.

Funny how you could answer that but their tech support guy couldn’t. I didn’t quite understand your answer, but I’m sure it makes sense. (When I log into Hostgator, I access Addon Domains through cPanel. Are you saying that if there are multiple cPanels, each one only gives you access to the Addon Domains that were added through that particular cPanel?)
Not surprisingly, I haven’t gotten that email they promised me yet.
Why would you ever sign up with a company like that. , website screams bullshit shady hosting.
