Suggest a quality custom server hardware vendor

I’m looking for something along the lines of:

6 core xeon (or dual quad)
16GB Ram
2 x 64GB SSD raid1 OS
12 or 16 x 1TB 2.5" SATA disks
storage controller that supports JBOD passthru (disks not exported as raid0)
4 x 1Gbit ports
KVM (iLO, iDrac, etc)

Im looking to get several of these a month, and I need a reliable supplier that can build this stuff quickly and ship to EU.

Seriously just get Dell/HP/IBM, whitebox prices seem cheap but the peace of mind of just calling to log a fault with a decent SLA and them having the right part and support is priceless.

Dell or Supermicro

We use Dell.. for storage look at R510/R520 and the R720XD.

Any more data hits an IO wall.

We have a few Dells, and a lot of SM stuff… the issue with Dells is that they use all proprietary firmware, so you can’t just pick up an off the shelf HD and put it into the box. You HAVE to get the spares from Dell.

Considered using something like Solaris which lets you use caching devices? The 720XD you can fill with SAS drives but is expensive.

That’s not true.

You need to buy the caddies (~$15 each or so) but you can use any hard drive.

We played with Solaris and ZFS, it wasn’t pretty. We do caching on separate machines loaded with 16 SSDs now.

Didn’t know about these caddies, will email my provider to ask.

Because that’s laughably overpriced?

Trolling?

I don’t know anything about web hosts. , just throwing it out there.

Is that really overpriced? What about the $500 server? Have the $500 server on my wish list for the future… Well if things goes better.

Mediatemple are almost charging per month what the hardware would cost to buy outright. You could then co-locate for ~$150 a month.

Not to mention the whopping 3TB of bandwidth.

IBM x3650 M4 look pretty good, but their drives are $599 for 1TB. Can you use your own drives? Seagate Constellation 2 is like $280

People still use MT?

I will admit I am a sheep to MediaTemple . I’ve turned into an Apple fanatic for them. They just keep sending me free stuff, t-shirts, notebooks, stickers, etc. Even their social media team girl added me on Facebook personally, lol. I wish I knew more about hosting, outside of the basics.. I’m not really a tech guy, just a designing/marketing guy.

$2000 is ridiculous for a single server that isn’t even top of the line hardware and comes with only 3TB of bandwidth. The $500/mo server is even more of a rip off. Comes with one quad core Woodcrest… from 7 years ago. Even if it sucked your dick it wouldn’t be worth $500.

oh man she would totally bang you.
