what do you guys use to backup your WordPress sites?

Is there a plugin that does this better than all the other plugins?

I want something that backs up EVERYTHING (like all the posts, pages, plugins, config options, etc.), not just the internal parts like the Tools –> Export command does.

mysqldump -u root -p wpdbname > filename.sql

Cool. And that backs up EVERYTHING?

So like if I were to delete my entire WP site, I could restore everything to how it was before? All the posts, pages, themes, code customizations, etc?

iirc yes, but I could be mistaken. I haven’t use it for a little while

.

Wordpress is just a .sql and the files on your server. Make a script that backs up the sql regularly. Do the same for your files.

@echo off

set tdtd=none
set ttrn=none

for /F "tokens=2-4 delims=/ " %%i in (‘date /t’) do set tdtd=%%i%%j%%k

mkdir %tdtd%
cd %tdtd%
ftp -i -s:""

:EOF

Database is backed up separately.

This will back up the complete database including table structures, easy to move around, easy to restore.

Oops. I just noticed wordpress in the title.

Mine is a regular .net site. In the end, its all files so whatever.

whats so funny about that?

typical way to back up mysql data, just being a smart ass is all lol

There’s probably a gap here for someone to make a plugin or standalone PHP script that grabs your database name from WP’s config, backs it up and copies it to /backup folder, grabs the path from config, tars and copies that to the /backup folder, then FTP’s them to another server of your choosing (or emails you when it’s ready so you can download/delete)..

No, it does not. Themes require a file backup, not a database backup since themes are stored in files.

can i just copy all the files in my domain and then re-upload them if anything ever happens?

Yes
