Whats up with edu domains?

I’m looking to buy one, but domainsite and godaddy don’t have .edu as a choice.

Is there some specific site or specific way to buy edu’s?

Edit: I already have the .com of the same name, if that means anything.

sorry to break it to you broham but you have to be an accredited institution to get one

Yea, I saw that when I eventually found the administrative body for them. It’ll be purchased by a Community College (CC)

Weird how edu’s a are separately… managed I guess?

And yes Browning. I’m starting the South Harmon Institute of Technology

oh I thought maybe you were looking to start an online school or something. I wish I could get a .edu domain, things are insane for authority

Starting up a school would take so much god damn work… Accreditation, finding people who know what they’re doing for teaching online, computer, server, course, building, human costs… fuck that. I’d never start that shit up.

What do you mean authority?

I’m guessing by authority, he means it’s a site that can be trusted. Hell, I’m allowed to cite sources from .edu sites in my research papers and usually, using internet sources for research papers is not allowed unless it’s a credible source.

Since .edu domains are regulated, if you got one, you are credible.

FSU had to wait for like 7 months before we got approved 11ty years ago.

I’m talking about from an SEO standpoint. .edu backlinks contribute more to your SEO score in the algorithm because they’re considered ‘authority’ sites. It’s highly debated if that is because of the .edu tld or if it’s due to the fact most .edu sites have insane amounts of backlinks and high page rank, either way I’d love to have one to sell links on.

Not so much authority as TRUST, nga. Get yo trust up, Get yo rank up.

.gov and .edu inherently carry massive amounts.

Ah. All make sense, although selling links, and tld and stuff is a tad above my knowledge at the moment. I would suspect though that a .edu would have tons of links. And for every thing that links to and off it? That’s shit tons of traffic…
