i would like to keep the exact concept to myself. but i will describe a similar concept so you can get the jest.
… a website dedicated to car audio installations. people could create accounts on there and post the details of their car and car audio installation, and talk about the shop that installed it and rank the shop that did the installation, expertise, quality, etc. when you visit the site you will see a list of the last 10 installations. you could browse the installations - randomly, or by genre of car, or by your state/city. people could post comments on each of the profile pages., etc.
sounds really simple for most of you probably. php with a mysql back end.
i am not looking for feedback on the concept because it is made up. any suggestions on how i could get this made, free software….should i use forum software? or is there something out of the box i can get to do this?

I don’t think forum software is going to really work for you. It won’t do everything that you need. I think if you are really wanting to get into doing something like this, you will need to be custom making a lot of your site. Maybe you can take things from here and there, but you are asking for unique and different attributes that make your site unique.
Plus, if there was software around to make it work like you described, then everyone would have sites up.. Get what I mean.
hmm..is that really a well known site? ive never heard of it. perhaps because im in canada and theres nothing on there for canadians
actually, after navigating through yelp, i find its not very well layed out. its quite confusing
That’s what I thought of before seeing the yelp website. Cardomain has been around for a very long time.
I don’t think he’s actually doing a car oriented website. That was his example because he doesn’t want to share his idea.

PHP/mySQL could be accomplished in a couple of days, providing the design is complete.
You could also integrate google maps for the shop locations, and have Sponsored Shops that promote their work..

That’s what it takes to start/run a business unless you know how to code and design yourself.
It’s definitely not easy/cheap.
Plus, you got to think of it as an investment; you’ll get it back if your idea/concept it good.
