How much do you talk to the client on the phone vs. email or IM?
mostly email and some talking on the phone

the only im I do is via skype and that depends on the client
Depends on the client. Some prefer in person contact, others just want shit done and find email more convenient.
I was just wondering. For the last year I was 99% email. Suddenly outta nowhere everyone wants to talk on the phone
Email and IM. I don’t mind talking on the phone but I feel for some projects it makes it more confusing. The worst is when a client wants to describe everything to me on the phone when it would be much easier to just understand and refer to it via an email

that is when I ask them to send me an email with what they want in it, or I send them an email showing what I was talking about, makes it easier
Good question..Actually 99% of conversations I have on skype, e-mail and so on. Only 1% - phone calls. But I am sure those numbers depend on business area.

Exactly this.
E-mail mostly. I can’t stand explaining the same thing 500 times on the phone.
Good. These replies are making me feel good. I thought there was something wrong with me because I was getting annoyed at having to talk to people on the phone.

Although I think in a many cases they want to make sure you’re an actual person, which I understand, but fuck, I spent like 1.5 hours on the phone with a client today and I’m just like GEEEEZ I could’ve emailed you all of this in 10 minutes AND you’d have it for future reference
Yeah I usually go an initial call so they know I am real and set up the meeting with them, and then we move it to email after that so it is documented and easier to get points across by showing them
Email

Has a papertrail for accountability

If a phone call, will send a followup email with notes

I run a contracting/renovation business and I barely talk to people on the phone. I do most of my scheduling and whatnot over email. I’ll have the odd person call for a quote, or want me to call them, but the majority if electronic.
