Hello all,
I recently thought of a great idea (in my opinion) and I’m looking to start getting into app creation (just this one project). If I can’t do it in a specific time frame, I’ll most likely hire someone but for the moment, I would like to look into the programming.
Any published books out there on app creation or a good resource for app making besides the apple website/forum?
Thanks guys!
"Apps" is quite a broad topic, you need to be more specific.
hmm.. iPhone/iPad app to start.
edit -
The app will pretty much be based on someone putting info in in the app/website to update a specific detail. I think it would be simple.
The more I think about it, the more I think there will be no way I would be able to do it the way I want it; incorporate it into an auto updating website with stats etc.

Just sayin’.

Well, I would personally rather start with the iphone; I think my target audience would have more of them than android.

iPhone is more profitable for developers still.
Something easy, look into Appcelerator Titanium
You can write Cross Platform Apps in Javascript and they are compiled natively.
Should be fine if you don’t do crazy shit.

maybe more users than iPhone, but don’t forget about iPod touch and iPad users that are not associated with a cell carrier… they all use the same apps…
Android has more users than iOS.
Users doesn’t mean more money or viewers.
Just to clarify for MUDFISH, users have to register to access the marketplace (or the app store, if you swing that way). The figures go by the estimated number of registered users. They also come from popular app makers and use aggregate data based on the number of downloads. And they go by sales of units. Android overtook iOS last month. Android growth has been steadily on the rise for about the past year. And if CES is an indicator of anything, it’s going to eventually dominate the market.
It will eventually translate into both.
At some point. But the money is in iOS right now.
If you’re putting out a paid app, definitely go with iOS first. For free apps it’s a tougher decision. I’ve gotten more growth from android than the iPhone. I dont know if its because there are less apps, more users, or if it’s just easier to find. Support for android fucking blows though. Oh some asshole with a g2 is getting force closes all the time, while someone with a droid is getting timeout errors. Fixing bugs for all of these devices is a bitch. Much easier to troubleshoot errors for the 4 different iPhones that are out there
That didn’t last long.
Android now has 46% share of all impressions and 55% of all revenue generated from apps.
Who the fuck cares. If you are a developer and looking to make as much money on your app as possible, you release for both.
