Anyone have any ideas for taking addresses from a mysql database and plot them on a google map dynamically? So for example, there are 300 people with addresses, I want to open a map and see all of those addresses plotted on a map. If a new person/address was added, then the next time I look at the map, it will show that one on there as well. Going to look in to the Google Maps API, although I’ve never been great at APIs for some weird reason.

VB.NET.. is there a way to get data from an external website database?
I have a website on hostgator and am building a desktop application in VB.NET. I want to get data from the mysql database from hostgator (values from a table). Is there a way to do this?
Help please
a simple xml api would be pretty easy to write php loves XML.
Need some blog / site design advice.
Alright guys, I’m starting a new …we’ll call it a blog and want to start out from the ground up. The right way.
Should I tweak a wordpress etc. theme like I’ve done in the past or start from scratch?
The second option would take a lot more effort and frustration, but I have some specific desires that I haven’t seen in any themes.
Anyways, this is just an introduction to the start of my project so I’ll post updates and questions through out the process. I’m going to need all the help I can get, from affiliate marketing to design to content etc.

Am I the only one who does this? v. Change design like 50x a year, till it’s perfect.
God dammit, for being a perfectionist. It’s great and it’s annoying. Anyone else think okay, this design looks amazing! Then next week you pull it back up start changing it and a year later you’ve changed it 50+ times.. And you keep changing bits and pieces of the design.. I guess I envy trying to have the best designs in the world too much; never satisfied.
ps. How long does it take you guys to finish a full website, that you would love to display as your own?

Does the www. domains help in SEO?
I’ve always ran just domain.com.
I’m not entirely sure why it was just the default configuration of wordpress that it auto redirects without the www.
Is this hindering me at all or doesn’t it make any difference?
cheers
Short links are better?
I’ve always ran long links that encompass alot of keywords with my posts.
There’s no difference.
WWW is just a subdomain of the main domain.

drupal experts, upgrading core
the core files are everything included in the zip? what’s the easiest way to know if the client’s core files have been modified? would you upgrade the core then re-modify the core files?
Make a copy of the site as it is, remove contributed/custom modules and themes, so that you have something that resembles the files you get when you download drupal.
Then in a separate directory download a zip of that same ( not the new one ) version of Drupal. Run a comparison on those two directories, if you don’t know of a tool for that and are on Windows, is a free tool that will do it. That will quickly show you any file modifications.

Webmaster crew, let’s talk shop about whatever in this thread.
Let’s hear a bit about everyone…sites you own/run, challenges/strengths, mishaps, rankings, etc.
So I run a messageboard as a side project, for charity. All the money that is generated gets put back into the site for development. About 2 years ago the homepage (not forum home) had a PR6, and I was getting nearly 1,000,000 unique visitors a year. Never really put any effort into it, especially on the marketing side…had a few sponsors and google adsense, and was making over $10k per year in revenue, with minimal expenses.

YMLP vs. awebber?
I’d never heard of these guys until today. They say it’s free for the first 1000 emails per month. Sure beats paying $30/mo at awebber right?
Anyone used them before?
edit - just signed up for a mailing listed somewhere that uses YMLP and it got sent to a hotmail spam folder. Maybe it’s not as good as Awebber.
ive used awebber. i like their stuff and never had mail sent to the junk folder.
it’s all about the content that you put in that makes it get sent to the junk folder.

TWL has been pretty dead lately. What’s everyone up to? Too many projects maybe.
Seemed like when I first joined this forum was taking off. Hasn’t felt like it’s been too active, maybe it’s just me? So what’s everyone working on? Currently working on two main website projects, finally found a new company to manage of one the sites and rebuild it. That’s about it, have put other smaller projects on hold.
I have like 7 personal projects that I’ve started but not finished because I’m too busy working on sites for clients.
Same here one HUGE personal project I really need to finish, but these two main client projects are eating all my time up.

How can I use a youtube vid that went viral to boost my own traffic?
I uploaded a vid yesterday that already has 85,000 views.
How can I use this to my advantage?
There’s no adsense on it (haven’t been offered, and it’s probably copyrighted anyway so I couldn’t do that).
The only thing I can think of is to put a random link to one of my websites in the vid or in the description and see if people click. None of my websites are related at all to the content of the video so that wouldn’t make logical sense to do it and people would be like "wtf, why is this link here?".
