I REALLY like the inline editor that they have. It is great for people who either don’t have a clue about web design, or just don’t have the time.

The only problem is, their sites are tailored for sports teams/organizations. I am looking to build a site for a business that may offer a few items for sale as well. They are TOTALLY sold on the "cms" portion of the site, but obviously don’t want a sports site.

For those of you not familiar with ngin.com…
You login to the admin area and click on "new element" to add elements to the page. To move them, you simple drag and drop. You edit text in a word editor. And you never have to touch the code. Plus they host it, so the client doesn’t have to worry about any server side issues.

For the person who is okay with the basic layout on rails…and are looking for a "cms" site, but don’t really care how it is programmed, this is a wet dream. NOw I just need to find a similar service.
Back on the search for this again…

Pagelime, Perch, CrushyCMS and unify require knowledge of code…although not a lot. It also requires that the site already exists and you are simply modifying pre-defined portions of the website.

I’m looking for a solution where someone can do the following with ZERO coding:
Add/Remove entire pages and simultaneously update the nav bars
Add/Remove/Edit content within a page
Upload photos, videos, etc
Change the layout of a page

Hmm…seems like the alternatives are getting closer, but not quite there yet. I can’t believe ngin is the ONLY product out there like this.
Have you tried Squarespace? I think it will accomplish what you described in this last post at least.

.
Haven’t heard of it…I’ll check it out.

The problem I’ve found with most of the services is that it requires you to have a site already and it merely allows you to edit certain regions that already exist…AND…you have to understand the code enough to modify those regions (in code) to allow the program to function properly.

If I’m going to end up doing all that, I’ll just design the site from scratch.

Thanks.

I’ve always admired your av!
SquareSpace does not require you to already have a site or know code at all. It’s primarily for blogging or just creating blog-like content. If they don’t have a video tutorial on their site, then check on YouTube. You’ll see what it’s like. Seems like it’s probably exactly what you’re wanting.
