I don’t use the hosting part just the DNS. I have used them for probably going on 9 years. Granite I can get cheaper but I don’t see a reason to change. It works

The problem I had with gd is they make it really difficult to transfer away, I think they do shady stuff with auctioning expired domains but I don’t really remember the details and I’ve never had a domain with them

I think a couple years ago I read something about them (godaddy) using a "shell" company to renew/register domains after tracking impressions once someone let them expire. Their aftermarket seems kind of shady that way too…with different prices depending on the stats…unless I read it wrong last time I looked in there. But you can pick up some interesting drops in the aftermarket for pretty cheap

The ONLY reason I tend to use godaddy so much is they are just cheaper than the rest for the most part. With their never ending coupons and specials on domains it is really hard to beat them for reg price and, especially, renewals. Sure, I’m cheap but saving even a few bucks per name makes a difference when you start talking about 500+ domains + privacy and such.

I also use fabulous quite a bit as they just give you their best price without all that silly coupon code crap.

edit: never have had any kind of problem with godaddy as far as the domains… transferring away and such. Guess it only takes once to really hurt though :/

I find that everybody that has issues with GoDaddy is generally lazy/can’t read. Everything I’ve never needed to do with them has been easily found in their Help Center.

But alas, there’s always coupon codes getting sent out, most recent one I’ve got in my email is.. gda943s, it’s 25% off $100 or more. Depends on what you’re renewing though, as their codes generally don’t work on domain renewals.

I have never had to renew a domain at godaddy without one of those "7.49" type coupons. Those are usually better deals than the percentage codes

a lot of companies did that, godaddy was registering domains before people had purchased them and were at one point very quick at registering the domain, since they were registered before the check out process ended. i don’t think they were really trying to scam people though.

network solutions was registering domains after people queried them through the website, if they didn’t purchase the domain that day netsol would register it and mark it up like $40

icann’s tax did away with most of the domain tasting though

gd does a lot of really shady stuff which is my problem with them, but a lot of it’s on the back end operations and has nothing to do with their support

Shady like how? I actually have friends that work in multiple departments there, it being an Arizona company and all. I know their views of the company, and I know the views of the people at NoDaddy, both of which I think are the extremes. Just trying to get another perspective of the place before I apply.
