i have a site that a friend’s company designed…i had him do the landing page and some other pages (about/contact/services etc) but didn’t have him do the e-commerce because i couldn’t afford it at the time. he reused an existing store that was created using zencart by a different designer.

fast forward a few months: i’ve been seeing a significant increase in phone orders because people are unable to complete orders through the site or the products are not available on the site yet (my fault).

i asked my friend to start working on redesigning the e-commerce section but i’ve had a hard time getting a hold of him lately probably because he’s getting married soon. whatever the case may be, i really cannot wait for him to have some free time next month or whenever. he also hasn’t returned my calls for about a month now and i can’t afford to keep the store section of the site the way it is any longer.

has anyone had any good experiences with a company that designs/programs e-commerce sites? i’m not looking for someone who can load a shopping cart and be done with it…i have a couple of functions/capabilities i need the store to handle that are not typical with most online stores. i realize this is pretty vague so any help would be appreciated.

i can PM links but i’m not about to post it on OT

Why, free advertising lol

Then quit being so fucking vague.

What are the atypical functions that you need in your store?

Also you should be using Magento, not Zen-Cart. There is no good reason to start a site built on Zen-Cart. It’s a procedural mess. And it’s not modular, which means that changes to functionality require "hacks," which hinders upgrade compatibility and leaves the site vulnerable until the hacks are applied to the upgraded code, although I suppose that’s not really much of an issue anymore since for the most part, Zen-Cart is also abandonware.

some remanufactured parts i’m selling require a core charge to be added to the cart as a separate item. this core charge is a fee that ensures that the customer will return their defective core item to me upon receiving the remanufactured part. once we receive the item, we refund the core charge. if they don’t, we keep it.

as for zencart, i’ve decided that i’m pretty much done with it. i checked out digishop upon recommendation by another designer and it looks promising. magento was also recommended but i’ve been hearing negative things about it from a few people.

Yes, lets use Magento since from what it sounds like, he is likely on shared hosting. Over bloated Magento + shared hosting = 10 sec load times. Yay. I fucking hate Magento more than Zen-cart.
