First time I am doing this serious. I’ve done this for fun and I rarely go more than $60 but this time I’ve gotten a client interested (I am doing an internship and maintaining a website and one of the staff got interested in making another site for their organization).
How much should I charge?
Depends how good you are. Anywhere between $25 - $100/hour.

I use Flash (even though a lot of people hate it). I was thinking about charging him for the site itself then hourly to maintain it.

If Flash meets the requirements of the website based off their target audience, accessibility, and product delivery, then Flash it is. But if you haven’t done this research yet and jumping the gun on Flash, you probably shouldn’t be charging him much.

I charged $350 for my first "professional" site.

I am a hater, I will admit that, but there is a time and place to use it on a site and just because you want to do it, or that is all you know, is not a reason to do it
God I love websites that are entirely made of flash.
I love having to wait 10 seconds for an intro to load, then clicking 10 different links to find what I need instead of being able to link directly to a page
Oh I am past that portfolio part. The issue around waiting for flash sites to load could be an issue way back in the 56k days but not today.
do some research, yes you are right on that case, but there are a lot more reasons to not use it than to use flash. now a days
One of them being that you can build almost flash like sites just with something like jquery.
i’m no web designer or anything. but i hate flash. i usually close websites with it. i have high speed, but my computer is old and slow. flash just makes it worse. i’m sure there’s plenty of people with old computers, slow internet. just plain ignorant about keeping their computers in top running condition. i’ve met people with twice the computer i have and their computer’s are running like a 486. so, just something to think about when considering flash.
