Anyone got experience with this?
It’ll be used as a communications method for a small business. There will be web-based access for clients and the staff will use an iPhone app + the usual desktop clients.
Is this something a basic shared hosting account could handle?
Better off hosting it themselves on a small server in the office?
Which irdc is recommended? "Best" according to google is inspircd..
i’d go with a vps atleast. how many users are we talking about
I use InspIRCd as well, its one of the best ones out there. UnrealIRCd is the most popular one but I feel like it’s too bloated and can be slow at times, and other ircds (bahamut, ratbox) are next to none for additional features. They don’t use that much bandwidth or resources so running one anywhere should be alright, but a VPS is always good.
There are a lot of hosting companies that will refuse to allow any type of IRC to be hosted on their network, so that’s just something to be aware of.
10-15 staff on constantly, they expect 40-50 clients to connect on a near-daily basis. So maximum would be 60-70 users at any given time.
Cool, will keep that in mind and probably go with InspIRCd then. Did a few hours of googling around and reading and it definitely seems like the best one around at the moment.
Yeah, figured this might be the case. Will talk to the main host I use and see if they’re ok with it.
