new web design site I started is at 60,000 in the US and we haven’t even launched yet

analytics says there are only 300 uniques and 700 total visits

I always thought alexa was bad but wow…
meanwhile there is a gaming league/forum site I co-own that gets 3000 uniques per day and 500k visits in the last 3 months and it’s alexa rank is 100,000+
Do you have Alexa toolbar installed(Sparky) and browse the site A LOT?

I’ve by myself put a non-launched site at 450k Alexa with being the only visitor. Ever.

Alexa isn’t really that accurate.. it was (kinda) in 2001.
all 3 of us working on the site have the alexa chrome extension

any browser extensions out there with site rankings that are a little more accurate?

I did something similar with one of my sites. I was watching the "time of avg visit" on google analytics. I was trying to increase this time…so I made some changes to the site to make it more interactive & appealing for people to stick around. (The site is modified with an online editing tool).

Suddenly I saw the "avg time" skyrocket! Then it hit me…that was all the time I spent on the site working! I found out how to filter out my hits and the data went back to normal. DOH!

I can’t remember the name of the extension, but there’s one that has Google PR/back links/Quantcast/Compete and a few others, but the PR check only is for the root page() and not for any other pages.

I wish I could remember what it’s called so I can put it on my new laptop

ya we’re using wordpress and the bulk of the design stuff was done on a local install but we’ve been tweaking a lot of things using wp’s online editing tools so it’s expected that our avg time on site is gonna be retarded, it’s pretty easy to exclude your own statistics from analytics though… not really a big deal anyways because no1 other than your site admins get to see it

since every1 can see our alexa rank and I don’t think there is a way to submit IPs to alexa so they exclude them from their report I’m worried that people will think we tried to boost it on purpose, which would be pretty slimy
Personally I’m satisfied to just know the amount of visitors I get. Even that is a bit too detailed actually, since we should care more about revenue-generating events than pageviews or some such metric.
