Why do we have to confirm each domain every year?

I don’t mean the reason, I mean why is it domain specific? Why the hell can’t they do that shit on the same damn day? I mean shit, this week I had to do it 3 times

this is godaddy, so as usual, a level of scumbaggary is expected, other registrars seem to take the sensible approach, but that’s why godaddy is rolling in dough, while others are not

You can consolidate them to the same day with godaddy… or you could be proactive and just renew them all on the same day anyway..

WPengine for hosting???

After being fed up with Godaddy and their shit customer service and crap hosting, I’m looking to move my site to a new managed wordpress host. Anyone have experience with WPengine for hosting? I’m looking for quality over being cheap – they are a bit more expensive but reviews seem really good.

Getting a forum (not general, targetted at motorcycle riders) going..

Trying to get a little forum going, just for fun. Don’t plan on making money off it, just trying to fill a gap (all our local motorcycle forums are basically elitist cum-stains )..

What’s the best way to go about getting a targetted forum going? Don’t want to spam general forums since we mostly just want to get local riders onto it.. and quality members > quantity in this case..

Ideas?

cheap business card printed up and hand out at bike nights or places where you hang out with your fellow riders

I got hacked.. they inserted google ads into my pages!

All it was, was a few hold pages.. haven’t even launched the site yet.. it’s just a portfolio/homepage for my small business..

Load it up today, and there’s google adwords under my logo and "coming soon" message!

Hosts couldn’t help, they don’t keep logs. Last modified date, for the html file, was 3am this morning.. so it was recent.

Any way I can figure out HOW they did it? Whether my entire hosting account is compromised, or if they got in through a script/etc?

Any of you fools do general wordpress site building contracting/consulting?

I’m going out of town for 6 weeks and a guy I troubleshoot stuff for occasionally would like someone he can call/email if shit breaks (and it’s WordPress, so that will definitely happen).

He’s not a developer, he’s at most a "site builder". Most of the changes I make for him consist of updating plugins or adding some CSS to fix broken themes.

Anyone else run vbulletin or a large site?

I have a forum that has about 70,000 members but activity sucks on it . I don’t even make $300 a month from AS.

One of the problems I have is that it takes way too long to load the main index page for the forums and that turns people off.

I have some add-ons, and some Ads from AS running, I have removed all of that to test and it is still slow as fuck.

The stats for the box are as follows:

Hardware: Dedicated box: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz, 2GB Ram (unsure of the speed)

Building a new site from scratch…what technologies to use?

Hi, I’ve got an idea for a new site. It will be a site comprising of pages of recipes, forums to discuss, blogs for individuals to track their projects etc.

I’m wondering what kind of web technologies I should start out with. I have experience with Perl and Java and SQL but I’m willing to learn PHP or Ruby or whatever if those are better options.

Any opinions?

It can handle everything you want to accomplish, it’s built in php but you can get almost anything built without actually knowing any php
