Okay… loaded Apache/MySQL via XAMPP and then loaded wordpress. It’s working great, FROM THE SERVER!!! I can’t access the site from remote workstations and if I use a UNC path to a specific file, it displays the actual php code in the browser. I’ve changed permissions and the url settings in wordpress, but not having any luck!

Any suggestions?

Does your Apache installation have PHP?

yes…. otherwise it wouldn’t be running at all

Only reason I can think of it outputing PHP.

You need to access it via HTTP, not by UNC path. If anything, assign an IP address to that box, and have your users access it via that IP. Or get a domain for it.

already tried that… ip and by system name on the network

Does accessing it by IP on that machine work? i.e. instead of using localhost

Is xampp set to online or public or whatever.

usually works out of the box on XAMPP

Accessing it via UNC definitely won’t work.

What comes up when you try on another machine?

understood about the UNC, I just wanted to make sure I could reach the path to begin with.

using the server or computer name on the network isn’t working either.

Sounds silly, but is the server behind a firewall? (not a diss, just sometimes it’s the simple things!)

hmmm…. possibly a windows firewall…. will have to check monday
