I don’t own this site nor am I affiliated with it:

it’s a pretty fantastic set of grid templates for web design. it also includes the template’s CSS files and other goodies. it not only enhances the overall cleanliness of my web design but I can crank out a page 2x faster than before, especially when it comes to slicing and coding.

you probably are all familiar with it already. but it’s changed how i do web design..

I wasn’t familiar…and I love this shit.

It’s been around for a while now (nearly two years at least). You can find 960-grid-oriented web development kits online. They include PSDs and whatnot that contain all of the guides for the 960 grid along with sample wireframe layouts that utilize the system.

yeah, the site i posted has the templates. top left.

I’ve never used it but would like to try it once.

If you’re actually interested in the aesthetic reasoning behind good layout and spacing, you might considering looking up "divine proportion" (aka "golden ratio").

It’s interesting stuff. Coders tend to be very focused on functional delivery and efficiency. A mathematical constant such as φ can really help out a lot with explaining the functional purpose of negative space to guys that otherwise view it as a wasted screen real estate.

i’ve heard of the golden ratio, but i always thought that was some sort of tin foil hat bullshit. is this legit?

It is.

We as people are attracted to proportions and symmetry on a level most people don’t understand. There’s math to explain every bit of it.

Been using this system for a while now. Love it.

Same here.. been using it since early last year for nearly all my sites.. absolutely love it.

It’s also bloody awesome for whipping up a quick demo layout, just to play with where things sit on a page in real-time while you’re with a potential client.
