I recently acquired a premium domain name
The domain I was operating on before had a lot of SEO done on it, as well as branding campaigns.
Now that I have the premium domain, would it be wise to start doing SEO on the premium domain and discontinue old domain promotions if I plan on changing the brand name?
to clear up any confusion, I own for example NYAutomobileShop.com
I acquired the premium domain: NYAutomobile.com
should I redirect NYAutomobileShop.com -> NYAutomobile.com
or since i already have established presence/brand do opposite and redirect
NYAutomobile.com -> NYAutomobileShop.com
and keep the brand name same as "NY Automobile Shop"?
lol@premium
Redirecting the new one to the old one alone isn’t going to help you any. You’d have to develop it in some way to get any benefit from it.
I have redirected an established domain/site to a new domain before and while I did benefit from doing that I think I would have been better off developing both separately but linking them together somehow. I did see a nice boost though from redirecting the old one.

im not looking to get an SEO boost from it
its more of a branding question than an SEO question
should i abandon my branding efforts i did in my old website and start branding newly acquired premium name?
or should i just redirect premium domain to old site and just change the logo but keep website name same, and just redirect customers that directly type that website name in to be redirected to the site they needed to go to (a lot of customers get confused with the shop at the end of name vs just typing NYautomobile.com
no matter what I wouldn’t redirect new to old. Before I did that I’d make them two separate yet connected sites.
I’d redirect everything to the shorter, new domain. It’ll transfer PR anyway if you do a 301 redirect.
if you spent a lot of time and effort, then i would stick with the old domain. I looked up the traffic volume for both of your domain names and it doesn’t look like either of them get much traffic so sticking with the old domain = your best bet. May I ask what the purpose of the purchase of the ‘premium’ domain was?
No way that’s premium.. Doesn’t seem like it would be.. Maybe I should start buying those similar..
dont listen to anyone saying redirecting to the old one is bad. google and bing favor older domain names for one…. Also, there are many case studies of companies that redirected to old domain names with a new one for SEO purposes.
